I have always loved photography; have always been fascinated with the fact that you can stop time and capture it is a photograph forever. When I say I have always loved photography I mean ALWAYS. In 1977 I was seven years old and getting ready to have my 8th birthday. My mom and my sister and I went to make that Wal-mart run except in the 7o's it was to HIll's, Harte's or Woolco. (Does anyone remember those stores?) While there we saw a man who had a table set up and was selling Polaroid cameras. I wanted one so bad!! My mom talked to him a minute then he took my picture to show us how the camera worked. He snapped the shutter and then the image came out of the camera - OUT OF THE CAMERA! I thought I was going to pee my pants! We left there with no camera - it wasn't my birthday yet and that was just too much to pay for a toy. But imagine my surprise when I opened that camera on my birthday. My very first camera. I still remember the excitement of taking those out of focus, under exposed images - I was on top of the world and felt for sure National Geographic would be calling any day.
So here we are in 2009 and I am just as excited about my camera and taking pictures as that 8 year old years ago. I hope that my technique has much improved and even though National Geographic did not come calling I am just as full filled to be doing what I love! So thanks mom and dad for all your support and for encouraging and indulging a crazy 8 year old.
Here is the image that started it all. Check me out in my short shorts and Shawn Cassity T-shirt. That is my much younger sister beside me; isn't she cute.
That is awesome that you still have that photo! What a great memory!

We just used our Polaroid at Sam's party Saturday!! The kids loved being able to see and actually touch their picture immediately. It was a great party favor to take home!
I loved your photo!!
